So if you have checked out my YouTube channel you would know by now that it is dedicated to ways in which we can care for our hair and skin withou spending too much money and one of those ways is by DIYs.

So This week I posted a video on how to make sesame seed oil at home!

Sesame seed oil

Sesame seed oil is a vegetable oil made from sesame seeds which is a small light brown seed prevalent in Africa as well as India, it has a nutty smell and looks golden or yellow. It is an edible oil so it can be used for cooking as well as for hair and skin care.

Sesame seed oil is a highly beneficial oil for hair, skin and health over all. It has been said to improve heart health, oral health, boost metabolism and reduce the risk of cancer in people who habitually consume it.

It contains vitamin E, B complex, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus and protein which are great for the hair promoting strength and over all nourishment.

Hair care

Sesame seed oil is great for the scalp. It has antibacterial, anti fungal, soothing and tranquilizing properties, improves blood circulation, prevents or alleviates dryness, helps fight lice as well as dandruff and this will promote the growth if healthier hair.

It is also great for the strands as it repairs damaged strands thanks to its protein content, it prevents premature graying of hair, protects the hair from harmful UV rays and gives the hair lustre. It also battles excessive shedding due to stress.

Skin care

Sesame seed oil is an awesome moisturizer for skin, it also clears scars and rashes.

Similar to its effects on hair it acts as a sunscreen and is a good source of nourishment. It is used as a massaging oil because it stimulates blood circulation. It has anti-bacterial effects and slows down aging.

How to make sesame seed oil

It is a very simple process and you will need;

  1. Sesame seeds
  2. Sunflower oil (1 cup to 1 quarter cup of sesame seeds)
  3. Wide cooking pan
  4. Blender
  5. Cheese cloth

First thing to do is toast the sesame seeds in the oil till it’s golden brown, then you add sunflower oil to eat and let it warm up for about 2-3 minutes.

Let it cool.

Then you put the oil and seeds in a blender. Blend for about 1 minute because you just needs the seeds to break up a little bit and not to become fine particles.

Let the blended oil and seeds sit for a while then you strain out the oil using a cheese cloth and you are good to go!
