Hey guys!
So yesterday was my wash day, it took me so much time, I really advise that you have some time on your hands when you decide to wash your hair and carry out all the works.
So my wash day involved four processes;
- Detangling/Pre-poo
- Shampoo
- Hot oil treatment
- Deep conditioning
The first thing I did was divide my hair into eight sections.
Then after sectioning, I started work on the section in front by first spraying with water till it was saturated but not dripping wet. Then I applied my conditioner before proceeding to detangle each section then put it back in its twist. When I was done with detangling I left the conditioner in for about five minutes before rinsing that out.
After I rinsed it out, I shampooed my hair applying the shampoo directly to my roots as that is where the dirt is. I shampooed and rinsed then proceeded to my hot oil treatment.
I poured the oils I had, coconut oil and castor oil into a small bowl then heated it up by placing it in a hot water bath then I applied the oils to my roots using the tips of my fingers and massaging my scalp in the process. I covered my hair with a shower cap and left the oil in for fifteen minutes before I rinsed it out.
After that, I applied my DIY deep conditioner using the remnant oils from the hot oil treatment. I covered it with my shower cap and a hot towel for about thirty five minutes before rinsing that out.
When I finished, I wrapped my hair in a cotton T-shirt to kickstart the drying process then when most of the water was gone I proceeded to moisturize my hair using the LCO method then I styled my hair letting it dry in its own time.
Tips
- When detangling first finger detangle before using a comb.
- Be careful not to hurt yourself when heating the oil.
- Be careful not to use too much shampoo, avoid using shampoos that contain sulphate.
- Don’t use a towel to dry your hair, it can cause breakage when the towel strands have friction with hair strands.
- Detangle from ends to root.
It took me more than three hours to carry out this entire thing, it’ll take less time for people with shorter hair and honestly I may have been a little slow probably because I knew I had time.
How long does it take you to carry out your wash day routine?
Stay healthy, stay lengthy

Lol! It actually takes me less time now than when it did when my hair was shorter! Maybe it’s because once you learn your hair you can refine the washing process… Nowadays, I’d say about 30 mins to an hour if I’m just doing a wash-n-go… which is what I do most of the time!
